My own experience of networking windoze or Linux is that it's best to 
find a card that works and stay with it.  I'm not at all surprised 
that the NS card doesn't work.  My own solution is to use RTL 8029 
cards verywhere.  I can get them from a local shop for £14.

If you want to stay with the NS card then you might have to jiggle 
the values on that card at the command line.  I think someone else 
can answer that one.
