[Sheflug] Monitor not shutting off

 Little bit of a repost, but I got no response the first time around:

 Now that I've finally got XFree 4 config'd and running, it turns out
that the monitor is not shutting off.

 I've tried manually shutting it off with

xset dpms force off

 but that does nothing either.

 I'm having to use the power button, and it's annoying me, not to
mention the fact I'm walking away from the monitor to go do other stuff,
expecting it to off, and it's sitting there eating power for several
hours...

 Any ideas any one?
