[Sheflug] performance increase
Hi all,
a few weeks ago I sent an e-mail regarding things I could get
off a web/ftp server to increase performance (thread is on
<http://www.ctanet.fr/~sheflug/mailarchive/2001/11/msg00028.html>).
Well, not much to be done, but because of keeping up with the
freatest and latest to get the firewall people satisfied, I installed
2.4.16. So what I have is a debian-based (mostly self-compiled pacakges)
based on 2.4.16, apache 1.3.22 and proftpd 1.2.0something. The change of
kernel has proved a major performance enhancement for ftp and apache.
The main page on the server can be served about 40 times per second (as
per ab, anyway, and on the same wire), and the ftp response is much
faster now. The uptime is only of a few days (3 or 4), but there have
been a few moments of high load (high load for this server is rather
modest, it's a 486/DX2).
All in all, I am quite pleased with the outcome so far...
Regards
José
