RE: [Sheflug] Digital Cameras and USB.
Hello Richard
Not all Digital cameras use USB, there are some that use plain old serial
ports.
I have a Kodak DC215 Zoom digital camera. This has a serial cable as it's PC
connection and I
use Gphoto software on my SUSE linux desktop to get the pictures from the
camera to my PC.
I also have a USB compact flash card reader (from Maplins for about £25) for
using with my laptop.
I take the compact flash media card out of the camera, put it in the card
reader, connect to laptop and then directly mount the card with mount -t
msdos /dev/sda1 /home/camera
A USB port is a small rectangular port, if you do not have one you could buy
a
USB PCI card to fit inside your PC. This would give you two or four ports
depending on the card and
then you would be able to connect a USB camera directly. Also some
motherboards had a plug on them
for a USB port connection,if this is the case you can get a USB port that
connects directly
to this connection on the motherboard and would save you from needing a PCI
card. Try looking
at the Belkin USB motherboard adapter from Misco (www.misco.co.uk) it costs
£9.99 +vat part
number 28510 and gives you two USB ports. (picture attached)
Hope that gives you some ideas.
