I assume "smal" == "smail". I don't recommend smail, although I use
it myself. I'm having problems with queues not getting run and things
like that. I also had security problems with past versions.
Configuration is as bad as sendmail in its own way.
qmail has a reputation as "bugless" (I know several people who make
most of their---rather comfortable---livings as qmail consultants to
large ISPs and corporate sites). exim is supposed to be manageable
configuration-wise. postfix is apparently an up-and-coming MTA, but I
know little about it. I suspect that exim is the best for this purpose.
