Try hdparm
Beware that kernels released 10-15 months ago contained buggy IDE drivers
that corrupted disks when used at high IDE bus speeds. IIRC it was a
problem with the DMA code. I installed a machine with redhat 7.1 12 months
ago and had to drop it back to 7.0 to stop it corrupting disks. I believe
the problem was solved a few kernels later and the kernel in redhat 7.2+ is OK.
