make dep -	Make dependancies

make clean -	Clear away old .o and kernel images

Both rather recommended. make dep is still recommended by make 
config/oldconfig/xconfig (dunno about menuconfig, not really used it) when 
you exit. make clean isn't suggested, but I still type it out of habit from 
2.0 :)

Btw, "make dep" is suggested in the README in the top-level linux directory...
