Just personal preference I suppose. I've had experience with both RedHat and 
Mandrake and TBH I prefer Debian. Debian have written policies on various 
things (how perl packages are installed, how packages are named and 
configured), Mandrake and RedHat don't. That said, Debain doesn't have the 
best config tools. The reason I claimed he was mad to use Mandrake on a 
server is that in my experience it's a very big distro, and running it on a 
32Mb P166 seemed a bit outlandish. :)
