Umm... I went trough all of this when I bought a digital camera. I'm 
a commercial and scientific photographer with twenty years experience.

When I got hold of my own Olympus C-960-Z with it's serial port the 
USB drivers weren't very good.  Things have changed quite a bit since 
then.  So, I don't know what to say to you other than good luck.
