It's in your XF86Config file.  In the graphics devices section, I've got
something like this:

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "Default video card"
    Driver      "mga"
    #VideoRam    8192
VideoRam 8192
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection


And in the "Screen" section, I tell X to use that device like this:

Device      "Default video card"

FWIW, I couldn't even get the kernel compile (2.2.18presomething) a few
weeks ago with AGP and/or MGA support...  <sigh>  I see in Alan Cox's
diary that it might be fixed now, though.  Hmm... now that I'm not running
VMWare, I might look at the 2.4 kernels :-)  I hear PCMCIA support is
integrated in 2.4 to some extent....  is that correct?
