The 8.9.x release made the Bat book severely out-of-date; it's pretty much
useless for 8.10.x and later :-).  Header checks were new in 8.9.x, and
much improved in 8.10.x, so it's not going to be much use to you.  More
use is cf/README and doc/op/op.*
