I think Sun Microsystems are doing something and also Borland.  Have 
a look at.....

and scroll down to the bottom of the page.  Type the word java into 
the search engine.  You can also have a look at Freshmeat ?  There 
are some very good commercial compilers out there for about 30-50 
UKP.
