Yes, it's a Debian ISP.  Haven't seen another one in this country.

nothing in var/log/messages.  If I do "sendmail -bD" I get...

"451 opendaemonsocket: cannot bind: Address already in use"

This is without connecting or doing sendmail -q.  If I connect I get 
the above and this at the bottom........

"server SMTP server wedged"  If I do "sendamil -d0"  I get....

SYSTEM IDENTITY(afer readcf
(short domain name) $w=bolehill2
(canonical domain name) $j=bolehill2.sheflug.co.uk
(subdomain name) $m=sheflug.co.uk
(node name)  $k=bolehill2
root....... recipient names must be specified

also -d8 to -d48....  I just get  root.... recipient names must be 
specified.
