RE: HOWTOs for the new newbies [was: procmail and kmail]

Paul

I think a howto is a good idea but your own version needs a few
changes so that MS Windows users can understand what you're on
about......

>Step 1:	Get internet connection sorted - use wvdial, run >wvdialconfig and plug your details into /etc/wvdial.conf.

I think you should also mention.... X-WVdial, Gnome PPP, Kppp and X-
ISP.

>poll mail.myisp.co.uk with proto POP3 user "username" there with >password "mypassword" is linuxusername here options keep fetchall

I can't begin to uinderstand what to put into fetchmailrc from
looking at this ?

>Usually sendmail will put in the "from" line
><username> [at] <hostname>. You can change this to, say,
>"user@mydomain.co.uk".

I've no idea what this is about. What is it that should change ?
(exactly)

Pine isn't easy to configure at all. It's at least as bad as Lookout
Express. I have to admit that no one has yet explained to me how to
set up Pine and so far I can't use it because no one will explain
wether it's sendmail or fetchmail or Pine that isn't properly
configured.

 >type "fetchmail" to download your mail from your isp Type

I do not intend to start typing things into a terminal window when I
connect to an ISP. Either the ip-up script does it for me or I'm not
going to use the internet from home.

Thanks :-)
