Re: Floppy boot



You're on the right lines booting from the floppy, as you know you need to
tell it where the root partition is on the hard disk. You neeed to specify
both the hdd & the partition number, eg hda1, (ist ptn, 1st drive).

If using SuSE, boot Yast & check the partition layout; in RH or a
derivative use DiskDruid to ckeck what the partitions are. If all else
fails, DOS fdisk will report existing partitions, if you chose auto
partitioning you'll have /boot, /swap and / (root). If they're on a disk
on their own, that makes / as /dev/hdx3 (replace x with a, b, c, d as
appropriate).

I always write my partition map on a sheet of paper when doing an
installation, for those "oh bugger" moments!

Final thought - if you're using Corel, I sympathise.
