No, it's definitely a SCSI device. The writing on the chip actually says

ZILOG
Z0538010PSC
SCSI
9519 19

As I say, I've previously checked the Zilog site and found nothing for
UNIX/Linux but having just revisited the site, can't find anything at all
now. It's an oldish chip which isn't made any longer, the date code on my
device, 9519, indicating that that particular one was made in '95.

I did a web search and funnily enough was presented with a link to
http://skylab.org/~listz/plug/199808/msg00074.html where an almost
identical question to mine was posed. The writer described my card exactly,
stating that it was supplied with a Tamarack scanner, as was mine. The
reply suggested he just go look at the SCSI HOWTO and Hardware HOWTO. I can
only find a SCSI-Programming HOWTO. I looked in the SCSI-Programming HOWTO
but found nothing. I then looked in the Hardware HOWTO and found references
to the NCR 5380 series of SCSI controllers. Maybe I have a clone of this
device, any suggestions?

I'll try it anyway.

Steve
